We love going to the beach, but at the same time, it could be a lot of work. Sometimes, I think about how much work it will be and decide that maybe we’ll just go to the pool! But living in Florida and being about 20 minutes away from the beach, it’s a shame not to go!
As moms, we always think ahead and try to be prepared. When it comes to going to the beach, it requires a lot of planning. If you don’t plan in advance, you’ll end up forgetting something and have to stop at the store to buy something you probably already have!

The good thing about beach gear is that it can be used over and over again. It is a good idea to get good quality things for the beach. A good example is a beach umbrella. An inexpensive beach umbrella might seem like a good deal, but if it gets blown away and breaks, you’re out of a beach umbrella! Having a strong and sturdy beach umbrella that can withstand wind is definitely a must, as well as for shade, especially for the kiddos.
Another important thing you must bring to the beach is sunscreen! The sun’s rays are so strong these days and getting burned is not fun. There are many different kinds of sunscreen, but it’s best to get sunscreen that is has natural ingredients and paraben free. I like the Alba Botanica brand because it also smells nice too!
A cooler with some ice blocks along with some cold drinks – water or juice, as well as snacks that are perishable like fruit or sandwiches. A cooler that is on wheels is even more helpful so you’re not lugging it from the car to the beach on your shoulder!
A mesh bag is another thing that is a must bring to the beach. Otherwise, you’re going to end up bringing a lot of sand home with you! At least with the mesh bag, you can shake out the sand and have your wet towels get some breathing air.
To keep the kids busy and entertained, you can’t be without some beach toys! Buckets are always popular for kids because they like to pour water or sand into it. Shovels and sand molds are also another toy kids like playing with. You can also bring a beach ball too!
Other essentials include extra clothes, towels, sandals, money for parking, diapers, swim diapers, and of course, your bathing suits!
These are just some essentials that you should have with you when going to the beach, but I’m sure if you wanted to, you could bring even more. But just make sure you are able to bring them all to the beach, or don’t mind taking multiple trips to your car! I’ve seen people lug wagons to the beach, but going through that sand is always a challenge!
If you’re constantly forgetting things when packing for the beach, I’ve created this helpful checklist so you can make sure you got everything! You can even fill out anything else that isn’t on the list that you need to bring! Download it below!
