Cleaning out our closet is something we all do at some point each year. Throughout the year we buy clothes and constantly wearing our favorites, but sometimes we realize we have pieces of clothing that we don’t end up wearing as much as we thought. Most of us think about just donating those pieces of clothing to Goodwill or Salvation Army, which is a great thing to do for those less fortunate. Sometimes we are a bit low on cash, and a good way to make some extra cash is to sell your clothing. There are so many ways to do this.
Selling at a Consignment Store
You can go to a consignment store such as Plato’s Closet, but that would require you to have to find one and drive over to one. Also, their requirements for buying your clothes are a bit strict, as the clothes you want to sell to them have to be bought within the past year. Depending on the store, some want certain brand names. You may go all the way there only to not have any clothing chosen, or just a few pieces for very little money.
Selling on a Multiple Niche Marketplace
You can also sell your clothes on eBay, but you would also have to worry about people who will bid, win your auction and then end up not paying for it, causing you to have to re-list the item. It can be a pain, and eBay is a marketplace for all kinds of items, not just clothing. It is way better to list your items on a site where a certain demographic of people related to the items you are selling are looking.
So, what is the solution then?
Poshmark! Poshmark is a great combination of a specific audience demographic and selling online, so you don’t have to leave your home to sell your clothing. The only time you’d have to leave the house is when you send out the item to the buyer. The app is set up by designer, so you can browse clothing that way. You can even see which friends are also selling clothes by connecting your social media accounts.
Of course, Poshmark gets a cut of the sale, but if you are cleaning out your closet, you won’t really mind since you are using their platform to sell your clothes. The best part is that it is so easy to get started. You can use your smartphone to take pictures of the clothing, shoes, bags or accessories you want to sell, write up a description and price your item in minutes.
You can check out my Poshmark store here – @susanjanec. I am always adding items because I am want to make room for new clothes! Although the second week I had Poshmark I ended up buying a new (to me) shirt. It just shows that even though you’re shopping in someone else’s closet, you are bound to find some good stuff at lower prices.
If you are new to Poshmark and want to check it out, download the app, and if you sign up using my referral code, you can get $5 towards a purchase! Use my code BASNP when signing up for an account. Yay!
Let me know if you have Poshmark and your experiences with it. If you’re not familiar, would you check it out?
